"I like songs about drifters books about the same, they both seem to make feel a little less insane."
--Modest Mouse--

Not a drama-free day as is usually hope for.  I was all ready to apoligize but my family just left. Dern.

Note: swearing is not a sin, even if i believed in sin.  But my mom considers it clear evidence of my unchristian spirit, so i must learn to watch my mouth.  And i will be a lady.  (i really should have anticipated the 'shitbyreligions' Tshirt offending her, which today proved she can't take a joke.)

Bad association spoils usefull habits.  Bother, but i do like ya'll so much.

Read the sarcasm.  I think you all are good associations.  Good good good for me and myne.

"Who says we can't perform surgery on the sicknesses of ancestral habits?"
--ProfessorAdventure--

Lots of people, that's who.  Status Quoooooooo.  But i agree, we really ought to.  It's impossible, now, to understand anything human without a basic understanding of our evolutionary backround.  (ie, i know about marsupials, that's why we have a little suplerflous muscle on our uterus; i know about upright/fourlegged stance, that's why our backs hurt all the time).  Our past is ourselves.

The other day my dear friend Bryan, who desires to take over the world starting with Canadian miliary power and acronyms, was going on in his goofy German/Eddie Izzard accent about world governments and the group decision was reached that democracy is the most sustainable form of government ever.  Though it's bad, it's better than all the worst. rest.

What about tribalism?

I'm going to write a book entitled From Christian to Animist in 3 Easy Steps!  It'll be a best seller, and even more important that E.O. Wilson's Consilience, the Bible and Marston Bates' The Forest and the Sea combined.  It's all very simple, really.

1. Forget that you have 'sinned.' There is no such thing, and you are not broken as your Christian upbringing has led you to believe.
2. Take a walk or two, bring your dogs and preferable go barefoot.  Carefully consider your surroundings, whatever they may be, and acknowledge their source in relation to you.
3. Talk with your friends.

Now, the rest of book is extrapolation on these points, and tells you to consider during your walks the historical and cultural roots of 'sin,' and christiandoms' investment in it.  It also goes over such basic points as monotheism versus polytheism versus humanism versus capitalism, historical and technological roots of power.  It will discuss the power and durability of the Jews (their words), the power and durability of the Greeks' ideologies (ditto),  and the power and multilaterialism of the current world state (WTO).  Then it discusses the importance of environmental sustainability in relation to oil prices, and exactly why the upcoming election and our Victory in Iraq is one of the last fights *hiccough* of a selfaware dying world order.

My dad was talking the other day upon this point, that Terrorism abroad is directly related to energy concerns/negligence at home, and it all came together.  I love when confusing ideas come together in a united whole--damn, i sound like a hippie--but it's true.  Our dependence upon their oil & natural gas is our refusal to live *united with nature.*   In the most literal short-circuit sense.  Now, i know i've typed this all to you before, but i never truly got it.

Another example of discursive points coming together is that of the drug war.  I don't do drugs mostly because i don't want to mess with my brain and its chemicals, but also becasue i don't want to be a market for drugs or the drug war.  I detest the drug war more than drugs, but they support each other symbiotically closer than a dead log and ugly yellowish lichens.  Historically, the drug war started when alchohol became legal again in the U.S. and the beaurcrats didn't have anything better to do and still wanted funding.  It got its real kick after the Vietnam vets all came home addicted to opium, but opium being scarce in North America, they found Marijauna and Marijauna found better growing grounds in Columbia.  Columbia, historically, has no association with use of marijauna, but it does lie in a very prime trading location and is inhabited by poor, repressed, and competant indiginous farmers.  So today the US DEETs the headwaters of the Amazon in the interest of protecting adolescents.  Silly? yessireebob, but it's another closed circuit of perfect sense if you're really greedy and want to give good speeches to your electorate.

Maybe i'll have many pretty pictures drawn by my more talented friends.  Ouuuh, it should have pop-ups too for the kids.  I love popup books, i made one once but no one else in OM thought it was as funny as i.

the barefoot bit makes me sound like a hippie. just don't walk through black tar, you might get stuck and your golden retriever won't care much.

Logistically, there's no way home to tribal groups of 12-34.  7 billion humans can't all be hunter-gatherers, and i like my books, domestic cat, omlette commercials and scissors too much to really desire such things.  Humans, if not collectively all that bright, are ever resourceful and should find a betta way.

That's our choice.  To paraphrase Daniel Quinn, we'll find a way to fix it or the system will fix it for us.

crash and burn or get a parachute.

i know how to sew light fabrics.

did you ever hear the one about the island with 24 deer?
biology, dear folks, for once has all the answers.  well, if you know some trig too.

I'm sick of wasting time too.  But i know it's not a sin if i myself am having fun; but often i can barely live with the guilt of exploitation.

Maybe there's another true definiton of sin.

Is the family unit dissolving?
Is the family unit dissolving?
(written twice to fully appreciate the double meaning)

The Russia party went alright. Many people forgot to come, i blame my being away last week and not being able to issue constant reminders for that. Smoked a lot, i did, and was told i was the best Periodic Table costume ever seen. Thanks for the presents guys, but most importantly for your presence. There's a whole nother ice cream cake (19) if anyone wants to help me eat it. There is sadly no more bread, as Jessi ate most of it. Stupid, stupid dogs.

Today we got to Acoustic quite late (by 4 hours) but twas all good. Turtle mochas and cheese abounding, and then onto Racy's for some smoking. Quite variable, i am, while in grand towne Eau Claire. Many various imputs, claro. I've been thinking some about variety of imput and the effect on our brains, and i think i finally understand why cats are more intelligent when raised in messy bedrooms. Due apologies, dear Thomas Brokaw Oofta Eddie, for my cleanliness as a youth, i didn't know the consequences.

Now i'm in the faulty lab with my Rachels, and then we'll walk Jessi and find more adventure, mischeff or just take a nap. My everchipper future roommate wrote me an email with only 3 ha ha-s for punctuation, and i'm excited to return to Madison, funding allowed. Only 3 more weeks here, really. How should i spell mischeif? oppsies.

just shy of 14,000 hours and what do i have to show for it?

"Communism! You, dear girl, bring GLORY!"
One good Russian paraphrase, anyway. I already forgot the rest. (Glynis was Communism today)

And in honour of my birthday, our luvly commander in chief said something slightly sillier than usual:

"I want to be the peace president."

- President Bush, 7/20/04

A nice thought, but i want a lot of things too buddy. Only if i actually want something, i make an effort and don't brag/gossip about it first.

"why are you so grumpy?" "because I hate you"
Oh yes, another fun family vacation in the life of sarah eddy completed. I went camping with my dad and my lovely, talented, and even-tempered sister this week, and giggled all day Wendesday over the above conversation. Some people just can't suffer a snorer.

So i told my sister "Life is pain," but she continued to be grumpy.

Then we were attacked by rabid stable flies and learned what real pain is. Actually only Jessi (our puppy) bled more than usual, but those things bite like the proverbial Far Side piranhas. Actually worse because they exist. They were even worse than the smallest catfish in the world, but that's another story not within driving distance.

Driving distance if you're retarded, though. Six hours or so from Eau Claire will get you to the beautiful Porcupine Mountains of the UP, which is indeed a most beautiful place. Highest relief between the Appalachians and the Badlands, lonely remnants of the fabled Laurentian mountains (that's old, for all you not-Geology geeks out there).

We also learned that DEET does nothing against stable flies, nor does any remedy known to Michiganians save drier sheets. When being attacked by hoards of stable flies my first reaction was not 'time to dry some laundry!' --how do people figure that out? As we didn't have any drier sheets in our camping gear, we took showers with dish soap instead. Be proud to know me. Now. But the flies found us there too, so we ran further in my dad's stupid SUV to the top of a very tall windy hill. And ate ice cream.

My dad eats a lot of ice cream these days. Good for me, i love hot fudge. Hot fudge, um knyum. The Chatter Cafe in... some town in the UP has great hot fudge sundaes and is breaking many child labour laws. I want to go back now. Except for that drive.

Anyway, i made a sand castle of myth and gargoyles, and we also hiked a lot and saw waterfalls and many stupid people who asked us, "is the hike worth it?" Well, you're already in the UP, what else are you going to do? Drive seventy hours back home and tell everyone about how much you communed with nature? Stable flies should only attack the stupid. and the swimmers... well, that puts me well in the realm of the stupid. But what's really stupid is invisible rocks under water.

I turned 21 on Tuesday, and now i feel like i should go to a bar just because i can. My friend Dave's at one now, but i forgot which one. Whoopsies. Dad gave me a hard lemonade to celebrate, but my subconscious took over and i spilled it and stole his cigars instead. At least he didn't snore so badly that night. When did he get so old?

"I feel like the statue of Liberty... give me NOT your tired, your poor--give me more DEET!"

time for Buffy and cleaning....

well kids, i'm off. If you haven't heard yet about Russia, call Mary or just come to my house on Saturday. Dress as Russia! (anything Russian) Oh, and this party is to commemorate the births of Mary & sarah, so don't steal all our cake again.
Unless you plan on buying extra. Again.

God Bless America and the Kids!
The overnighter went alright, except a certain caliope car we all could mention.  Its honkytonk rebuttals conflicted with the B-95 country, serving to distort and make both even worse.  I never would have thought such a thing possible.  The skydivers and shinys from the travel channel, however, where not distracted and got some footage of me; "$12, here's your tickets, tune your radio into 91.5! enjoy the show!" i am so good at my job i get to be on TeleVision.

I got a poodle skirt, and so did Laura (one of the Girls).  My poodle was black, and Laura's was white, so our fab co-worker Nate drew a picture of us in our skirts with the dogs barking at each other.  Nate read Laura's dog in a fine English accent, 'hello, hello! excuse me sir but do you have any grey poupon?' and myne said 'woofizzle! woofizzle!.'  Because that's what black dogs complete with afros do.

Then Nate drew a Group picture of the Geminizzle Emplizzles, except we were all in our groups: the Girls, the Scarys, the Northerners, the Gays, and the Artiste.  Except Nate forgot Evan and Evan doesn't think he belongs with the Scarys, so we may need another group.  Hmmmm, it was really funny but it may just be a contextual thing.  I, for one, am proud to be a Scary.

Then we all put on sombreros and closed the concessions.  Just kidding.  But almost giving Chad a heart attack was humorous momentarily.
ork el dorco...which CJ exactly?

did you check your left eyebrow?
I can't find my giant red poodle skirt anywhere and it is making me mad.  I love my red poodle skirt.  i have held onto it for eight years now in anticipation of this weekend, and now it is gone.  Gone.  My dad's at RockFest, and convienently forgot to look for it in the garage for it, so i spent my morning on a ladder digging through old boxes of his clothes.  and books.  why does my dad put books in boxes? honestly, what the hell.

i went to Acoustic (surprise!) with Rachel & Donna, and Sarah C. was there too.  She's working on the Kerry campaign, which i'm going to help with too after i get back from camping next week.  Yipppppe yay, i don't even know where we're camping at yet, but twill be fun.  Dad, Rachel, Jessi & me, sans kimmy!

The DriveIn yearly Campout is Saturday, ya'll should come and watch crappy sequels.  However, skydivers, the Travel Channel, and free hotdogs almost make up for the dearth of quality film.   Maybe, though i can kid myself on this one as i'll be paid to be there.

why are Thomas' ears blue?-me-
"Does he need Prozac or Ajax?"-my mom-
The ears were blue because Rachel got bored.

And now he has a sign that says

'WILL CRY FOR FOOD'

which will be very usefull should he ever become homeless.

Also, we recently discovered that Thomas' middle name is Brokaw, mostly because i really enjoy saying that Thomas Brokaw Ed. is hiding under my bed in shame.

also, Seed Magazine had an interview with another of my personal heroes, E.O. Wilson. Excellent.

and if I had a nickel for every last dime I'd have half the time..."
--Modest Mouse!--

I donate plasma tommorroww, and it's Nik's birthday, so we'll be the same age for a few weeks here. Today I walked Jessi, went to Fahrenheit 9/11 again but with Rachel, Rachel, Bekah & Glynis instead of just Evan & Bekah. Evan went MIA, so i ate all his ice cream.

I really like Fahreennnnnnnn9/11 (as i've mentioned) but it's really stressful. Sorry i'm such a moody gal, kids, i'm over it for now now. Does ya'll lots of good. I especially liked the sing along i missed the first time due to a bathroom break. Our leaders should get together an album, maybe they'd suck at recording less than they suck at foreign policy. If avril lavigne & co. can make an album, it can't be that hard.

I've been very uninspired by our current political climate, but after reading an interview with Micheal Moore (in Playboy of all places) and the current issue of Seed (which rocks, incidently) i have less aversion to mister kerry.

I must look further into the matter, but Kerry has a few very strong things going for him:
1. some cronie in the Nixon administration said "We must stop this guy [kerry] before he becomes another Ralph Nadar,"
2. William McDonough, one of my personal heroes, endorsed him
3. he has a decent environmental record

I really hate people who vote single issue, such as everybody who voted Bush '00 because of his antiabortion position, but i am admittedly pretty much single issue. Voting single-issue is naive and irresponsible, especially if everything else that person stands for/slouches around at doesn't help you/your country.

There is a good chance environmental issues will turn out to be important in this election, as i feel they should have been all along. Bush couldn't have a worse record, and Kerry is posed to be America's greenest president yet.

Now all he needs is some good ideas about Iraq, the economy, education, the budget and so on. hm. lookin' into it....argh.
