Accountable Infinity However (Letters to Myself)

my subconscious must be BRILLIANT

i make things up and they turn out to be true. This has happened today in both my personal life and my geophysics homework. i want to make up nice things that will happen to me or apply to me in order for them coming true. Too bad i'm so pessimisstic.

1. [last spring]
Megan went to Ireland.

She saw really cool jointed basalt.

All i got was this stinky picture of stinky cows.

Isn't Megan stinky?
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Just kidding, i love Megan.

He didn't even take stinky photos of stinky cows for me.

HOLY GIANT SQUID!!

holy everything, i need to take a chill pill batman.

i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done!

You get the idea!

It's so exciting to have something done after all this inability to finish anything. Additionally, i finally discovered that the oceans hold 50X more CO2 than the atmosphere. i spent FOREVER looking up that damn number one time.

i'm now engaged in a cross-country battle over two commas.

Other than that, it is perfect (and i can feel smart again).

in review: i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done! i got my abstract done!

now all i need to do is:
--301 HW (need pp)
--627 HW (need book)
--307 reading response
--meet with two Anns
--register for the GRE
--figure out how to pay tuition
--594 HW (need better brain filled with math)
--something i forgot

And! Other excitement! RGE & co. are visiting me this weekend!

Ah!

Friday:
Jon: "I don't like that the LOTR Risk board is geologically inaccurate."

Saturday:
Alexis: "Are you fishing?"
Me: "In this sea of gay?"

All in all, a good weekend. Now, back to that hydro homework i've forgotten that i have at least 5 times.

"Nature to be commanded must be obeyed."

--Francis Bacon, "Novum Organum," 1620--

The new tagline "Lunchtime Identity Crisis" was inspired by a conversation this summer between most of the Jersey roommates that ended with 1. a decision not to do any serious thinking when hungry and 2. the phrase "Hypothetical meat aside...!"

Why am i so exhausted??????
("i ask you, i ask you this.")

Friend: "Sarah, you're crazy!"
Me: "Legally anyway."

In conclusion, a complete non sequitor!

(assuming you're a regular reader of this)

i know you've missed it.

i bet you've been wondering why i haven't written excessively about Bryan lately.

Where are the stories? Where are sarah's long-winded descriptions of location and emotion complimenting Bryan's every move? Have the two travellers of Romania, time, and myth gone home?

Truth be known, our adventures have simply been too exciting to report in typeset.

But they [the adventures] have been many, and dear Bryan is good. Unfortunately, our time machine still has not been recovered from the abyssal pawn shop of Northern Wisconsin where i stashed it last summer, and since i now need the time machine badly (RGE and i have a complicated plan to solve all our problems with time travel) Bryan is working hard to recover it. This summer my parents (who haven't spoken to each other in 15 years) jointly decided that he is my homeless boyfriend, totally ignoring the "gay and only loves Germans anyway"/"from a nice Catholic household--including house" aspects of his life. This has amused me no end. He was very, very, very happy to recieve a drunken phone call from me a few weeks ago, but should not think that this singular episode means that i have become a normal college student.

He is also spending a lot of time at Racy's and has great hair.

life, hair a mess

i thought about doing an Onion article for this here-ye-blog of me, and then i realized it was just too easy. So i'm not gonna.

Much.

"She usually looks like she's been through some sort of tropical storm. Her hair, that is. And her music is twitchy. And she corrects my spelling even though hers is bad too. And--" said the geologist's sister via telephone interview before all phones of the carrier the eddy sisters subscribe to broke. sarah herself was unavailable for comment; friends suggest she was either sleeping or locked in that creepy room with the microfiche again.

thought i was a witness

to this crime

thought i had a witness
thought we were on the same side

of becoming
then the judges called in a witness

(so then when did you then begin your craving for white powdered eggs and exotic matter that cells divide?--arresting time--so in your furnace then you drank my tenderness
feldspar and mica then
you thought that you would
own
my temple of gold)

Gotta rise
in the night
Pick myself off the floor
i know now that it's over

had a life
before
you left
me burnin' in your petrol emotion your petrol emotion (wanting more)

thought i had a witness
thought we had a friendship
thought i heard you whis-per-ing-mur-der
thought this witches' brew was more than bullet-proof
but words are like guns
when you shoot the moon ('cause everybody whispers 'c'mon, c'mon, c'mon')

is there anyone? is it any wonder (i'm out the door)? is there any way? is there any way forward?

thought i had a witness
thought you were you
thought i was a witness you could turn to not in
thought i had a witness to this crime
thought i had a witness

"Luddism has been far too simply defined. It doesn't mean just the hatred of machinery. Luddism has to do with a choice between the human community and technological innovation, and a Luddite is somebody who would not permit his or her community to be damaged or destroyed by the use of new machinery. The Amish, for instance, have succeeded simply by asking one question of any proposed innovation, namely: "What will this do to our community?" That, to me, is an extremely wise question, and most of us have never learned to ask it."

"Feed yourself spiritually"/swallowing smoke

My mom came this weekend. i had, somehow, forgotten just how depressing driving around southern Wisconsin with her can be.

Around New Auburn i expect the "huh, this is the highway where we found three bodies in that pond in 1978, and there's the house where old Bob hung himself" et-cetera because she was an EMT/dispatcher/whatever there.

Driving around Delafield is much, much worse.

But then again, it's not like i could have really expected to spend 2.2 days with her for all of 2005 and hope she'd be sane when i see her ["IRL," as Glynizzle would say]. She wanted me to go to the convention in Janesville this weekend. i did not want to go so i did not.

i feel that is my right at the age of 22.

i just wish it didn't make her so sad.

Back to the funny things about my life: did you know that tattoos are only for identifying senile old men when they forget their names? They can be so useful!

"It's a sure sign you're serious about living somewhere when you buy a jar of pickles for the place."
--overheard on campus--

It's also a sure sign i need more sleep when i pronounce "photography" incorrectly.

It has been SUCH an awkward week for verb conjugation anyway.

life as a dream/and again i'm not surprised, because this is how it's always been

Remember that time when my dad was hunting-who-knows-where in Sawyer county and a whole bunch of people got shot? And then RGE thought he was dead for a few hours there? (don't worry, he wasn't)

The trial's on, here in Madison.

racism & weather

Well, we've all heard about Katrina. Lots dead, lots displaced, lots and lots and lots of government errors.

Now just why is anyone surprised?

Good damn, i'm not the lazy geologist, i'm the cynical geologist. YOU CAN'T BUILD A CITY ON A DELTA, REROUTE THE RIVER AND DREDGE THAT REALLY, REALLY BIG RIVER FOR 150 YEARS, AND PUMP OUT OIL FROM [ALMOST] NEXT DOOR FOR FIFTY YEARS AND THEN BE SURPRISED WHEN THE WHOLE PLACE SUBSIDES.

LOWER THAN SEALEVEL.

BY A LOT.

Duh.

And THEN, you can't be so cheap to build levees that not even Bangladesh would show up to an international cocktail party with and then be SURPRISED and AMAZED and SORRY and such when the whole damn thing breaks.

Subside means to sink. Okay now i'm done ranting.

That was such a lie. Furthurmore, this same thing happened in 1927 (on purpose that time to a black neighborhood no less) and in the early 1970s.

Flooding of New Orleans has just been a matter of time since always, and i am more than a little upset that the government somehow never saw it coming (or rather, just couldn't care about its own citizens just because poor-black-people don't vote their way oft enough).

The only NYT article that didn't make me want to force the entire nation to take Geology 101 at gunpoint.

p.s. though i'm sure you've already heard it: but GOD ISN'T BUSH'S MOM AWESOME??:
"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this — this is working very well for them," she said.

Yeah---that whole my-cousin-dying-of-waterborne-diseases-that-you-thought-only existed-in-Africa and my-dog-drowning and i-fucking-ended-up-in-Texas thing worked out well for me too. i just can't wait to go back to the largest Superfund site in the free world.

Thanks for your support, Barb.

Ug. So this one time, my pessimisstic comments on the state of this country weren't true. But i really don't know when that was.

back in our previously scheduled gossip-things, heh! RGE/me on aim:

godofninjacarrot: i heard news on shuan
Hola2Sarah: really?
Hola2Sarah: what's up with him? and... how??
godofninjacarrot: yeah from jes
godofninjacarrot: his girlfriend was all like 'here's a list of crap you need to change about yourself to be with me' and he was all like 'hell no!!' and is looking for somewhere else to go
Hola2Sarah: oh my god
Hola2Sarah: for reals??
godofninjacarrot: yeah apparntly
Hola2Sarah: huh.... uh, where??

and so, the pre-op violin playing tranny from Kentucky continues his oddyssey. Stay tuned, i'm sure i'll come up with more encouraging things to say about this (and every other!) situation ever.

the cadence of conversation/symbolism: simpler than reality.

Life in Madison: going great.

Good classes; some with people i already know/like. Start work on Thursday. The apartment is awesome (finally putting up the wine rack tonight). Regular Tuesday coffee/bitch fest scheduled for the rest of the semestre with Ann; saw luvrely young Lauren a few nights ago and praised all of our life's blessings.

Now if only i could sleep.

Back in Madison.

Didn't give Rachel & Bryan either gas money (i forgot) or a proper sarah-eddy-is-lovingly-neurotic goodbye (don't know why). They delivered/drove me down here, hung out here last night & today.

i miss them lots already... and it's been an hour. i am such a baby.

(Rachel! Come this weekend! With my couch! Yeah!)

Only two classes tommorrow, but must be up by 8:00 anyway. Considering the not-sleeping-until-6 that the summer has been, that shall be interesting.

[edit: i would usually have 3 classes on Fridays, except they're all my discussions/labs. Therefore i have either one or nothing tommorrow. Of course the one that hasn't officially been cancelled is the a.m. one. Bother!]

i'm in one of those damn "needing a spaceship" moods. There are perhaps three people who will get the reference, and i appreciate you all very much for that.

Except for the fact that it's been the tagline all summer....

so,
i won something very important through sheer force of will. It definently falls under "be careful what you wish for" category if all of life is a children's book. By "won" i mean i can't think of a better word to describe it... but anyway.

My apartment is cute, though i really do neeeeeeeeeed furniture.

This has been the week for my Madison-friends to have random face surgery.

i actually have a job, but i don't know how many hours just yet. Goodness gracious, i am not a total screw-up.

while a group of ferrets is not a "fantabulous!"
as RGE believes,
a group of cats is indeed a clowder.
