Mmmm, Portland. What a place to be during the worst heat wave in three decades. i haven't slept properly in awhile, maybe since... since i last worked? Really? That's probably true. Oh, wait, roadtripping with Dave--the camping days were good for me, though he slept crappy those days without proper high altitude preparation. i love Barbie, i love her roommates, but i do think that being this awake at 3:27 am is not the healthiest for me.
Barbie, Tony, and i went up to B'ham for a few days last week, mostly hung out with Ian & Heidi, and some with Brenda. It was fun, as usual, the utmost thrill of my life to see them. i really want to go back... but i'm not gonna, not right now at least. i'm not working again until November, so the logical thing would be to settle down here in Portland and/or head up to Bham for a bit--i have places to stay, people to be with in these places--but i'm heading south instead. At this point, vagabonding has made me an eternal exile, and even staying somewhere i'm not working for more than a week seems strange. And the entire northwest feels like lives i can't live quite yet.
So here's the plan, and i'm much happier now that i've made it:
Leave Portland Thursday, couchsurf myself south, arrive in Tuscon around Tuesday (Elyse), couchsurf AZ/NM (??), Las Vegas NM (Allison... AND ALPACAS), couchsurf north, back in WI by August 13th for Arian/Megan's wedding, stay with mom for a few weeks, maybe even longer.
Staying with mom for more than a day or two should be really interesting... to the point of ug.
PROS:
1. she clearly has ample room for me
2. she demands my presence too often, might as well provide it while i have the time
3. i haven't finished a collage in a year, and she's agreed to a 'sarah art room' that she shall not molest (i'll believe that when i see it, but it's worth a shot)
4. food provided
5. normal sleep schedule possible
6. should worse come to worst, she also agreed to me buying alpacas and becoming a hermit on John's land (pretty sure this just shows how quickly our conversations turn ridiculous, but it's good to know if i for some reason give up on the whole geology/saving the world thing, i do have a future as an alpaca rancher in Stanley.)
7. staying at my official mailing address will probably decrease the confusion surrounding me. One does not realize how troublesome regularly being 2000 miles from one's mail can be. Honestly, try explaining that one next time you apply for car insurance in a state you don't actually live. Just try it, i dare you. Or try using your credit card and honestly having no idea what zip code you were using when you got it. i swear to god i have more zip codes memorized than anyone not employed by the USPS and/or of savant status.
CONS:
1. no internet (but, not really that huge of an issue, there's at least 2 places in town proper that do)
2. um... talking to mom as much as she wants to talk. Never sure of how to solve this one anyway, even not living with her.
3. i am totally going to be forced to paint something that should just be burned down. Motherly home improvements... oye.
So yay, more adventure for me in the next few weeks, then some good down-home wisconsin farm time! (and really... what is my issue? why haven't i stayed at the farm lately??)

Good lord, have i really not said a word about the entirety of July? Well, i went to YELLOWSTONE, Devil's Tower, knitted several hats in the worst heat wave EVER, drank kava, finished a few books, applied for random more-normal jobs, went to a bunch of waterfalls, went RAFTING (OMG), talked Shane into flying to Ireland for love, found out that my method of listening to music is actually pretty annoying to most mortals, was a guest star in stripper land (my role is chauffeur/sober-ist one, in case you wonder), met a german with a didgeredoo, actually started grad school research like i always talk about doing but never do, watched Pushing Daisies, jumped a car, camped the Oregon coast with a JW cousin and didn't end up in any awful theological arguments, turned 26, got woken up by a jackhammer (a vision of hell), and found out like everyone i know in EC is pregnant, so decided that: 1. there are hormones in the water and 2. this is my favorite video ever. But not in that order at all, oh my!
Okay, adventuring is great, to the point of being amazing. But i am... tired, and useless. And i don't like being either.
