Mom's side Thanksgiving: Awkwardness. Mom, cousins, gah... packers game and actually got in a fight over whether i should be an astronaut (which, for the record, as awesome as it would be i'm a bit too old & not healthy enough to do).

Stanley, Stanley. Cleaned all day yesterday, built some shelves, and at least 1/3rd of the house looks livable now.
i really wish we had the money to re-insulate everything, get new windows, etc. i seriously can't stay there for the winter (too cold), and on fb yesterday noticed a friend from hs needs a roommate, short-term only. So that could work out amazing--if i can actually afford it??--but when i ran the idea past mom she almost burst into tears ('But I need you here!'... and the next half hour is spent calming everyone down).
And then she wonders why i don't enjoy staying here.
[On the plus side: mini-geothermal thing with Ratty's geo class tommorroww!! Blake's bday at the DAAG house!! Kalahari retreat thing this weekend!! Friend's Thanksgiving on Wendesday!! OMG OMG!!]
So in the "progress" category: yes, i took the GRE. i think i did acceptable but not great. My school choices in the US are still Stanford, A&M, SMU, and Reno; and i need to figure out in the next few weeks whether there are any other logical choices (Berkeley's out bc they focus on CO2 sequstration, not my thang). This needs to happen in the next few weeks, so that when i talk to my hypothetical references i have a list to give them of places i'll be applying to... which is another reason i don't want to be in Stanley. Yes, i have internet time today. For like 2 hours. Not enough time to read through the departmental info on more than 1 school, and this whole never-ending Harrison Bergegon bullshit is really not helpful (she's currently telling yet another completely story irrelevant story of RGE's past hairdoes (no i do not make this up)).
Anyway, gotta go through the lists again, maybe consider Virginia Tech or Utah. Gah! Why can't the pleasant places overlap with the my academic field? Super frustrating, and New Zealand's seeming more logical by the day.

"Shit happened--in the past--end of convo!"--RGE--
So apparently this blog is the official chronology of our lives, so i have to keep it up to settle any future debates on what, exactly, do we all do with our time? So this is the truth, right now, as far as i know it (correct me if i am wrong):
1. i studied for and took the GRE this week! (yay! progress!)
2. RGE is getting settled in her apartment! (but not quite, another desk may be necessary)
3. Nik & Stacy's baby shower is this weekend.
4. Bryan rules the Joynt (we already knew that!)
5. Ratty, Jason, Dan, RGE, and i went to see Ok Go! today (!)
6. ummmmmmmmmmmm... two friends talked in Turkish on my phone today?
How am i suppossed to know what will be important to have a record of? Huh? i, uh, was at Joyce & Dave's for most of the week, which definitely helped on the GRE, but not quite as much as i hoped. Other stuff, soon, will be happening, but all the things that normally happen need to happen first. And Thomas is sooooooo cute, i need to attend to him before i think of more things to say.

ooooooooooooye (turns out that's bad for you)
So! i've decided to live my life like a high-powered business women, with the probably misguided thought that if i make myself busy first, the important work will follow. Since any attempt at logical sentences on the recent past will once again quickly dissolve into random parentheses-within-parentheses (a specialty of myne (that is awesome)), let this conveniently dated list stand in for the lapsed time:
10/8--10/11: Ratty/Jason wedding! fire, beer, dresses, hot-glue, sewing, boy scouts, more boy scouts, Bria/Max/Alexis taking pictures, bad hair/great hair, great food, cabins, more beer, opps then some wine (that Bryan spilled), music, crazydancing, random phone calls, bloodbath, poetry, safety pins, vows, mother unnecessarily joking with college friends, reenactment costumes, decorations, sparkles, important things, forgetting to toast my best friend ever (i am LAME), sister & co serving food, grilled cheese sandwiches, drives into town, common anniversaries... oh dear lord, and so on. In any case it was great. aaaaaaaand i kinda want to give Ratty & Jason presents all the time just to see them open them.
10/11--10/19: Hegira with Bryan! Niagara Falls, beautiful day, beautiful Jewish couple, bad souvenirs, lost at night, tacky Canadian bar, Toronto, Asian ladies, skateboarders, museums, 401, Bryan's evil Canadian twin Mike, Nova Scotia girl, paintings, traffic jam, Ottawa, same biome & geology as WI/but with bilingual signs, Sierra!, SIERRA'S QUEBEC ACCENT, hiking, clean geologists, walking, vocab, driftwood, fights over the radio, best fake honeymoon ever, worst border crossing ever, possum-not-possum, BECCERS! AND RED!
10/20--10/23: Madison! irish food, margaritas ("just let me say, before i tell you any of the things that have happened since our last meeting, that i lead a super classy life"), stellerators and formation diagrams, intrigues of the hardward store, insane recognition, coffee coffee coffee, german bar, actually having fun? (what?!)
10/23--present: Random Eau Claire Things! ikea, cleaning, other house cleaning, knitting, too much 30 Rock, back to Madison again--way too briefly to count, library, House of Rock, zombie movie, new furniture, visiting baby sister with full-grown sister, 86 & 99 (shoephone and all!!), tequila (good job Lawton), an air of mystery (better job Lawton), Johnnie A back in town!, Aggie giving birth (!!! baby=Ophelia), apparently a LOT of amusing squealing?, general Halloween party-ness...
Which brings us to today, which was great--after the collective hangover fix-ups that is. Lunch with Ratty, Kirk GOT HIRED AT A GREAT JOB OMG OMG OMG!, AND FINALLY ACTUALLY STUDIED FOR THE GRE. SO SO SO EXCITED. It's almost refreshing to know my actual level of unpreparedness rather than just generally being afraid of polynomials and unit circles and all that other great math stuff i quite purposefully haven't touched since high school... and while i have quickly found that just 'cause i did indeed once pass calc 2 does not mean i remember how to, uh, correctly add exponents or whatever, but it's great to review and feel like a test is handleable again... after not being 'tested,' per se, in years. (i have done so little writing since college that my handwriting looks different and i am not a fan.) Johnnie A. is back in town, and studying also, and we have plans to cram this coming weekend, and i'm scheduled take the test next Thursday. The other things on the near future list: roadtrip with mom (sick relatives (no idea how actually bad this is, which probably explains the current ulcer-feeling)), appointments in EC, computer fixings, OK GO CONCERT WITH RATTY!!! and Jason and Kirk (but whatevs, Ratty is the most exciting!), Kalahari group retreat?!, and i'm sure a dozen other things that will, somehow, make this post look cohesive. Because... OMG, just because.
Note to self: write in my blog BEFORE reading RGE's blog next time.

[opps, upon furthar examination, RGE's grammar has lately been more coherent then myne. Hopefully there's not a finite amount of cogentness we two can possess, and hopefully i'm not on the downward side of the slope? ARG.]
