"Are you my dalmation soulmate?!" --dog to cow, Halloween in Madison--

Getting the costumes together while being sneaky is a rather hard thing to do. Ben T. has come again to visit me, and the afternoon was a long exercise (heh) in exploring Madison by foot. Ben made cidar, then Lauren S. was found on State Street and snuck right past us (us being my Madison friends & me); she is therefore a ninja.

Actually, the fact is that on State Street the day before the real Halloween an ultra-mod girl with hair like a wig dressed up as Snow White accompanied by four other fairy tale characters and the punk that is Ben is actually invisible. We saw dozens of ninjas, pirates, bananas, Mario Cart, TETRIS (I LOVE TETRIS!), three Rainbow Brights, slutty everything, firemen, real police posing for pictures, police on horses, college students dressed up as horses following the mounted police around, rubric's cube, a barnyard, a wine box, eleven bumblebees (AHH!), four Corpse Brides... and i'm tiring of typing this list, but name it we saw it.

If you've not been here during this crazy holiday, it'd probably be impossible to describe. In almosttrying's words:

"Halloween weekend in Madion is big, if you don't know--it's the third biggest party in the nation, after new years in times square and mardi gras in new orleans, so, to speak in a politically incorrent manner, I suppose it's the second biggest now. But Friday's still the warm-up night, so I spent much of it in some guys' apartment, spraypainting Sarah E's fox ears and Ben T's bass guitar outfit, plus playing x-men on x-box (xcore) and laughing and being generally content."

And gosh, i thought that part was great too. i've finally been here long enough to feel comfortable at someone else's place; we worked on our costumes and when a movie ended my friend's roommate invited L & B to play video games. i walk into the room, covered in sparkly red spray paint, and the three of them are as chatty as can be. The only introduction i offered is "He likes plants, she likes writing, he likes music. You all, apparently, like the X-men."

And it all worked out.

every day is the day of reckoning, but i've no capacity to care

i have several baskets of sanity. i put them in a closet. They're mostly wicker, especially the ones of a dear friend (she knows who she is). Some of those are also collaged, and trust me, in this closet this works. Not bumpy collages, but pretty ones, even though they're on wicker. i collaged them because we both believe linear time was not the best invention of the human race.

Clearly, christian pop covers of reggae hits is.

i also have (i am told) baskets of evil tricks. Actually, i was told to take all of a stereotypical mother's evil tricks and put them in my sleeves, just in case. Having not heard the first part of this conversation, i said "Oh, i'd need baskets to put all my evil tricks in!" and the next line could have gone either way; but of course it went the way of 'let's all assume the goal here is to be a mother.' Had i heard the first part of this, i probably would have kept silent.

That's usually a good idea.

If you're not on the edge, you're taking up too much space/smiling's not hardcore

"Well, I never killed anyone in front of you."
--overheard in gaming talk (which is after the weekly Trivial Pursuit game)--

i am such a creature of routine. and i like it.

For several weeks now, my roommate and a few (varying, rotating) friends have played board games every Friday. We are boring, i suppose, for the college set, but i don't like drinking/house parties/thatsuch and those guys love their Axis&Allies. i am the reigning champ of Trivial Pursuit, which is funny as the first 4/5 of last weeks' game i got nothing correct (and i still can't name a single tennis star from the 90s, which is essential in Trivial Pursuit).

This semestre is going way too fast. Some days i'm surprised to not still be working at the drive-in or sleeping in my car and some days i'm surprised that it's not 2012 and i have a mortgage (or whatever those adult things are that people worry about) or have just spent half a decade doing something too useless/pointless to recall.

That weird headache has gradually gone away. About twice a day i blink and my brain does what i have dubbed "the research-in-entomology-gone-wrong static thing" (that reminds me of Mary Kelly in From Hell... see, now you understand, don't you? Yes.). i described the headaches in detail to my mom, and as i am convinced that we have the same body 28 years apart in time was a bit worried when she said headaches like these have never happened to her. By "a bit worried" i mean i was convinced i would die quite soon. This may have been an overreaction.

i realize i say things like "i am frazzled" or such quite often without really explaining what bothers me. i think, to those of you who read this and ask me these things, that if i wanted all the details upintheopen i'd just do that while i'm at it. [at it=typing] i am worried about money (Daddy seems to think magical government gnomes will come in the night and buy me food). i am worried about what i am doing next year (i am not ready to apply for grad schools, and there's no gurantees on getting any internship/jobs). i am worried about the fate of the world (okay, not all the time, but reading the paper is frazzling). i am worried about how i am doing in school (because i am in way over my head).

Oye. i can't write anymore on a computre after so much "work" on that other computre.

Next week is Halloween, it sounds like Ben can come again and Rachel and her new beau. This is so exciting i may burst.

i just might.

Burst!

*BURST!*

*sple-at!*

*PLLLAAAAUUUUIQQ!*

(the last, of course, being the sound of unbursting)

So if anyone wants to join them, call me or call Ben or bother Rachel at work 'cause she's never-never-never home (though, RR, because you are never home Justin & i have had many intriguing conversations; including, but not limited to; christian activism on campus, your hair, and our plans for next July).

Now, i am off to carve pumpkins. Excitement!

for i have learned
the price of ambition

Oye. The sentiment that is all around our wee webring today.

i bring nothing to the table.

Onward and upward: i'm officially in ASLO now; i presented my thingy (that project with forams and water flow, yeah i'm tiring of it too) to geoClub on Sunday, many good questions came up; the library is chaos (if i, of all people, can say a library is disorganized, you better believe the place is a bigol'mess); i got my wallet back but mega-rained-on in the process (ultimate catch-22: you need a photo ID to pick up insured mail. i just gave the postman a look and said, trust me, no one else in the world would want that package the way i want that package.); and as usual, i can never never never go home--no one else can work Saturdays.

Onward and upward for reals: at the risk of bouncing a check, i am on my way to drink more brown-coloured goodness.

Hmmmmm... i need a funny quote to conclude this blog entry, but my repositories of humour (RR & Bryan) are all exhausted and stuff these days. My other repositories of humour don't indulge in cybernetic narcissicissssssmmmmm... [egregious! i'm in college ! i can spell!]... so:

"This is nerveracking."

Take that funny quote and stuff it in your ear.

you DO need one more internet survey in your life!

My sister "tagged" me to do this, i guess i will...

1. What were you doing:
10 Years Ago-1995, i was twelve and in fifth grade. i lived on Arlene Place with my sister (Rachel Grace, she wore ribbons and lace...etc) and father and maybe our uncle Steven. As Rachel reminded me, Dad was going out with Julie at that time. i remember hanging out with Danny S. and avoiding all things holy in 1995 (my how the times roll on).

5 Years Ago - In 2000, i was in 10th. Like RGE, i lived on Fairmont with my dad and sister. i was a swimmer and worked excessively at Kmart and drove my myriad of friends around (which included Bekah, Elyse, Tony, and... others yup i don't wanna think and type at the same time). As my sister reminded me, that was also the year mom got remarried, literally as a surprise. My swim coaches didn't believe me [that i missed a practise to go to my mother's wedding] which turned out to my advantage as i got to quit swimming in a justified rage.

1 Year Ago - 2004 or so... moved to Madison. i'm sure every other entry covers my life here well enough. i was 21, which is apparently more fun than 22. Wait a second, the drive-in was WAY more fun than living in Jersey.

Tomorrow - Will be much like today, except i should have that spanish reading done not-just-thought-about.

2.
5 Snacks I Enjoy - apples, bananas, chocolate, anything that includes chocolate, uh... pumpkin pie.

5 Bands/Artists That I Know Most Of The Lyrics To - Modest Mouse, Ani! DiFranco!, Tori Amos, Buffy the Musical, one album by Soul Coughing

5 Things I Would Do With A Million Dollars - give a lot of it to my mother to get her out of debt, pay for college, buy a motorcycle (and maybe one for a friend too?), pay RGE's rent or tuition next year, be able to stop worrying about money

5 Bad Habits I Have - procrastinating, telling half of stories and then being sad or confused when people don't know the whole story, not including my sister enough, sleeping in too late to take a shower, whapping people with my hair when it's in braids

5 Things I Like Doing - hanging out with my sister and/or friends, going to Racy's, geology field trips, sleeping, and sleeping

5 Things I Will Never Wear - i'm just gonna quote RGE: "that outfit mom used to have that had polka dots, stripes, flowers and plaid in the design, anything else in my mother's closet that i haven't already pillaged out," as that about covers it. But in the interest of having a total of 5: sandwich boards announcing God's Kingdom, Micheal Jackson's sparkly glove, and a bear skin rug as tights.

5 TV Shows That I Like - Buffy is the only show i like! (okay, Angel, Jon Stewart, Lost, and Invader Zim too, but i don't have a TV so it's a moot-outdated-point)

5 Movies I Like - Fast, Cheap and Out of Control; Run Lola Run; Amelie; i heart huckabee's; De-Lovely

5 People I Would Like To Meet - Eleanor of Aquatine, Velazquez, Thomas Jefferson, Tori Amos, Ani! DiFranco! (i am predictable)

5 Biggest Joys In My Life - reading what my sister writes, sleeping, Thomas, piles of magazines, being useless after finally finishing hydro labs

5 Favorite Toys - legos and... i don't really have many toys.

5 People Tagged - Tony, Allison, MaRy, Alex, Lauren

p.s. Rachel R & Donna, my sister tagged you long ago but you apparently didn't notice

i live in a world of bizarreness.

i had the worst headache of my life Friday. it was sad because i was suppossed to be having fun. i was 'hanging' (as they say) with people i like and i just couldn't take it. additionally, my fingers felt dry and i had no fine motor control. so i went home and slept. Saturday=work, then we ate fine (in the other sense) lentil soup. the neighbors went to party at 9:00 and i went to sleep. i slept for 13 hours, woke up, tried to be useful, and instead took a nap. in summary, i slept this weekend like i was preparing for apocalypse.

one would think 6 doses of excedrin would help. it did not.

i don't know wuzzup.

furthurmore, calc befuddles me; my parents are crazy; and i really need to calm the fuck down.

that's right, i swore. deal with it.

the end.

p.s. El Greco is the bomb diggetty! so is MaRy!
