sur america!

i sure am working hard on that spanish essay. uh.

Paleozoic Rocks of the Ouachita Mtn. & Arkansas Valley Provinces

Yeah, that's right: my sister talked my dad into going to Arkansas for Christmas. She's (finally! finally!) meeting her girl and i get a free trip to... Arkansas.

The first thing i did with this news was say, "Family! You are crazy!" The second thing i did with this news was start my very own research project in the Geology Library. The Geology Library, however, has exactly three guidebooks on Arkansas and two of them are from 1959. Either my triU is cheap or Arkansas is boring--we have more maps of La Rioja, Argentina than Arkansas. i can say this with authority after working here for two months.

On the plus side, we'll be driving right through Missouri and i get to play guide to the Ozarks and i just might even get to be warm.

in the meantime... OH GOD THIS WEEKEND WILL ROCK. Because i'm not leaving Madison for the first time in a month, and because the routine is better than ever (convoy! the boys will meet my boy! and stuff!) and the headache is gone.

"Yeah, Faran went to Thailand. In Thailand, one can get Malaysia. I mean malaria."
--Donna--

Craziness all around; Thanksgiving was like an 80s montage complete with ridiculous theme music and different backrounds in every dancing scene. Wendesday; went to Baker's Square, fell asleep when my party-members came over. Thursday; went to cousin's country home (past our church), Quay's house to see Issa, MaRy's family's house with a Bishop & a Father & a fish & knitting lessons (yay!), sat around with Dad & RGE, went to Perkins with Bryan & RGE, watched Margaret Cho with Issa. Friday; kimmy!s house (blah! blah!), knitting shopping with MaRy, my not-a-lie-party (oh so much), RR lying to some drunk guy at Heckel's (hi Mandie, Emory must go swim now). Saturday; saw Walk The Line with mom (ran into EVERYBODY in the damn mall), the Joynt & GI (John was there! finally met Jason! ...and! broke up a bar fight, yes i RR & i did!), RR's house (Nick Cave dancing, Elyse got contacteyeraped by an oak tree), the Hizzouse (Heidi had some bar fights too; i fell asleep). Sunday; errands errands errands, RR's pancakes & high school movies, Acoustic with Elyse, RR, RGE, and Donna, dropped off the Rachels, picked up a Lauren, and back to Madison.

Not that anyone other than me really cares about my list of activities, but by now all know i enjoy remembering what it is i do all the time.

Back in Madison i emergency showered (the hair definitely had that been camping too long feel) and Jon & Dave & i made grilled cheese (they didn't let me help too much which was probably a good choice) and all was well.

oooosha yay! Thanksgiving!

So NEWS first: i'll be in EC ~8. Gonna eat/see Rent with RGE & Dad, and... whoever else shows up (the 10 showing). THEN. Then you might come to my house. Rachel, Elyse, Blake & Adam are already in for a fin, and all i know is that the internet/RGE&Glynis changing my (oh so well thought out) plans are CRAZY.

Thursday: Cousin's house, early afternoon. Food with Dad, late afternoon (??). MaRy's house, timing tba.

Friday: The Official "NOT A LIE, BUT SOMEWHAT FISHY" party at Dad's. Be there, bring fishy things.

Saturday: Megan&co Vegetarian Thanksgiving.

Sunday: Don't know what time we're leaving yet so probably a moot point.

In other news, yesterday==Big Ten with friends from not-Wisconsin & those here that i see everyday anyway and wonderfulness. Finally started (/got 1/3 done) with my roommate's curtains. i am TOO EXCITED TO THINK OR EAT, i just got a new mix cd & Elyse will be here after hydro & will meet Jon, & then we pick up Lauren and drive to the fine northwoods.

AND EVERYONE I KNOW IS MARVELLOUS!

(i'm in a good mood...)

When will i learn silence?

i swear, this is great.

Okay done now.

"...and ALL THE CANADIANS WERE ABOUT TO KILL ME! I literally had to run from the bar."
"Was this before or after you tripped in front of Barry Alvarez/got insulted by him?"
"Oh, way after."
"Okay, so not karmic action..."

So my sister is great.

She told my mom i went to Georgia (mom wasn't suppossed to know this 'cause 1. far-flung travel is irresponsible when i have a hydro test to study for and 2. because i went to a protest).

...yeah.

Furthurmore, dad told grandma i have a boyfriend. From here the story gets confusing (grandma tells cousin A, cousin A tells cousin L, cousin L or A tells mom) but in any case my mom now thinks i'm getting married in May (and is probably most likely very, very upset about this, because that's what she does).

...yeah.

i think the "in May" part is from the fact that i'll probably be graduating in May.

Thanksgiving's gonna be a blast explaining these things (i don't know if i'm amused or angry--it would be funny if the family involved wasn't so teen angsty/the WORLD WILL END AND I MUST CRY ABOUT IT ALL DAY FIRST about this stuff).

...yeah.

With the exception of RGE, EVERYONE WITH WHOM I SHARE CHROMOSOMES AND SUCH NEEDS A SERIOUS LOGIC BEATING.

[Edit: after reading through this, i realize this post makes no sense without knowing my super awesome family. Umm... just picture people who not only overreact to everything but think things like citizen participation in government is untheocratic, therefore eternally damning and shameful.]

Nineteen thousand pacifists and me: Georgia was insanity. Very high percentage of dreadlocks (not a surprise), very emotional. i might get around to writing about that part, but i wouldn't bet on it.

Apparently it takes 20 hours to drive to Fort Benning, Georgia from Madison and only 15 hours to drive back. Now, onward to that hydro exam.

magical governmental pixies

My gamble didn't work. i should be a bit more upset about this.

It's raining hardcore outside, and the things i actually could accomplish all require much walking. i have two major assignments due this week, but they both got postponed a bit, so again i'm not worried as i ought to be. i just figured out that i really shouldn't go to Georgia this weekend, i have a midterm at 1 on Monday (and we won't get back until 2 or 3).

bother.

a public service announcement [lest any internet stalker thinks i'm not a normal human in something other than the sleep department]:

i have a boyfriend. He is truly great, and while this is all very exciting i've already grown a bit tired of describing him over phone/aim/whateV (plus my sister more than takes care of it for me). He doesn't indulge as i in cybernetic narcissism, and as you all know i find it creepy to talk about people who don't read these things online, i will resist the hyperactive girl urge in me to talk about him everyday (though no gurantees on not breaking my own rules...claro). The end.

because my broken heart got boring

............WABhAM!

Central Midwest District Campus Ministry Training Conference=success. i didn't completely get out of work, and foolishly had to wade through two blocks of True Badger Fans (and the PEP BAND) to reach my silent library, and then walked back in the rain (pouring hardcore desolate rain, wah) but the conference/workshops/worship/extreme socializing itself was well worth it.

i don't feel i've been involved long enough in uu things for my opinion to really count, especially on these district-level things. But sometimes it does, and i was surprised.

At 12:17 today the dust bunnies in my room SUDDENLY SERIOUSLY UPSET ME.

i shall now go back to cleaning.

But i've got some new Rasputina & a mix (thanks Myke!) so it will be fun.

The Central-Midwest Regional Campus Ministry Training is this week at First Unitarian Society. i just realized i'm excited about this.

i could have just written "CMwD RCMT=soon, yay! here, FUS" and it would have meant exactly the same thing.

"Why should I love God? He strung up his only son like a side of veal. I shudder to think what he'd do to me."
--the Marquis de Sade in Quills--

Watched Quills last night. i love that movie, if only for its extreme melodrama (okay, and the happy happy pyro). We decided that everything that has ever happened in France happened around the time of the French Revolution, and that the main reason for the riots in France now are so film companies will be able to save money on costumes (which is somewhat sad, i love period clothing).

And in other news, spring semestre shall be the bombadiggety (topics 1 & 2), i made a slight technophobe addicted to this, geophysics ain't like it used to be, my grandpa had one of these while i DO NOT, Fujimori got arrested, Iraq is still totally gone, and not even the corn in Iowa makes sense.

"You have pleased me, you have pleased me... you shall not die tonight." --Sar-Ivy--

Wonderful weekend at home, November Halloween 1.78: success (except for the leaving of both my costumes in Madison), pages of funny comments from Blake the Scientist (he had clamps), Bry-Bry the Tomanian 1982 (tassles), Rachel the naked molerat (wool bodysuit), Sar-Ivy the Possible (pink Kim wig), and Ben the randomly missing. Saturday was many hours of mom-time, then some Racy's (so many highschoolers! so much gossip!), some Joynt (Megan! Arian! Rachel! Justin! ...Leonard!), and some Nik & Bekah's house (Everyone else ever (just guess the list, add Nate & Ms. Jennifer Crystal). Sunday; Acoustic, hair (but not cutting), Donna's bday, RGE back from BagelCon, and finally back back back to Madison. So much, and now i am done typing.

i ate a limosine for breakfast.

That's not true, but for some reason i just love that sentence.

Why did dad decide to throw out half my board games? And how was it possible for Thomas' water dish to be dusty?

Blah blah blah, have i mentioned i work in a library? Bother.

"Sarah, you were not suppossed to see that. And if you somehow did, you do not know the duct tape or knives involved."

RR, Donna, etc: i'll be at my dad's house tonight at 8:00.

Therefore, party at 9:00 (apparently the house is even filthier than normal (thanks RGE, i'm not gonna be pleased if i have to scrape blood off the fridge) hence the lag time).

i already called Nik & Justin, it's up to youse all to rally the rest of the troops.

none of you were ever (just) characters in my play.

i just want you to know that.

part of me really wants to go to this talk; most of me knows i'll be having more fun at 4:00 anyway:

Facies Distribution and Stacking of the Eau Claire Formation, WI: Implications in Fluid Flow

This study of the Eau Claire Formation focuses on the subsurface of Dane County, WI and outcrops near Eau Claire, WI. The subsurface data include continuous cores, well logs, downhole video, and cuttings. The formation is a relatively finer-grained fossiliferous sandstone unit between coarser-grained, highly porous, unfossiliferous sandstone of the underlying Mount Simon and the overlying Wonewoc Formations. It consists primarily of very fine- to fine-grained (up to medium-grained in core), variably feldspathic, glauconitic, and dolomitic sandstone locally interbedded with argillaceous siltstone and silty mudstone. The Eau Claire is divided into five lithofacies based on sedimentary structures, lithology and bedding characteristics. From base to top of the stratigraphic column, the succession is as the following. Lithofacies A is dominated by mudstone and siltstone with minor sandstone. Lithofacies B is defined by thin bedded, micro-hummocky cross-stratified sandstone intercalated with very thin-bedded siltstone and mudstone. Lithofacies C is characterized by amalgamated, thick- to very thick-bedded, hummocky to swaley cross-stratified sandstone with minor siltstone and mudstone. Lastly, lithofacies D and lithofacies E consist of thick- to very thick-bedded trough cross-stratified sandstone and very thick-bedded planar laminated sandstone, respectively.
Based on the observed lithofacies, biofacies, sedimentary structures, and petrography, the five Eau Claire lithofacies are interpreted to have deposited on an epeiric shelf, deep-water environment. The complete succession, from basinward to landward, is composed of offshore (lithofacies A), offshore transition (lithofacies B), lower shoreface (lithofacies C), upper shoreface (lithofacies D), and foreshore facies (lithofacies E). The five lithofacies represent shallowing-upward successions resulting in 4-5 Eau Claire depositional cycles laid down by shoreface progradation from offshore-shoreface-foreshore facies bounded at its base by a marine flooding surface. Occasionally, sharp-based foreshore facies rest directly over offshore facies attesting for lowering of sea level. The cross-sections and structural contour, isopach and lithofacies maps lead to a depositional model suggesting that the Eau Claire deposition and Eau Claire lithofacies distribution were controlled by (1) the substrate, including the Wisconsin Arch and syndepositional faults that affected paleocurrents; and (2) sea level that reflected in the stacking of the Eau Claire depositional cycles.
The depositional model parallels a hydrostratigraphic model in which confining properties of the Eau Claire Formation decrease from lithofacies A to lithofacies E. The aquitard qualities increase from the Wisconsin Arch to the west due to the lateral distribution of the Eau Claire lithofacies. Moreover, the Eau Claire Formation is more heterogeneous westward and the formation is likely to be more resistant to fluid flow to the west. Modifications of facies patterns due to the combination of synsedimentary faults, paleotopographic highs, paleocurrents, and sea level affects the hydraulic properties of the Eau Claire Formation in Dane County.

tee-hee, five minutes after giving my luvrely soulmate my newest surprise, emoticons and odd internet abbreviations appear.

The world is SO CRAZY.

Have i mentioned that lately?

It's all good, and for REALS i will be in EC this weekend: i have TWO rides lined up. Not just one, but TWO (don't fail me now).

So, who wants to host a party on Friday if Daddy tells me no?

And also, RGE, WHY WILL YOU BE IN MINNESOTA? WHY?
