Oye! A day off!
It's not that i work that much, it's that every day when i get done with work i hang out with rge, or call donna, or read until i'm so exhausted i can barely make it to the sink to get more water and i realize it's 5 or 6 am and i should really, really go to bed or i won't be able to answer the phone when Jon gives me his lunch-break wake-up call. Too many good books, too many things to complain about, and generally, too much to do and not enough darkness to do it in. It's as Rachel says, when the birds start chirping, i starts thinking about sleep. (except, of course, when that one really confused birds chirps at one a.m. We all ignore that bird.)
So awhile ago i decided i really, really wanted to volunteer on the s/v denis sullivan (if they won't hire me, i can still visit, no?). i was in discourse with the volunteer coordinator there, and had scheduled myself for July 22-29th on the boat, and took off of work and got rides (Jon on the way down with a side-trip to a MF with our geeky Madison friends, and Bryan on the way back as he's dropping off David at O'hara on the 29th anyway), and work even rescheduled the monthly team meeting for me, and i'd asked around if anybody would be interested in joining me (with vague yesses from both RGE & Nik), scheduled myself a doctor's checkup even though i can't afford health insurance, and even took a good, hard look at my wardrobe to see if i needed to buy anything for such a sojourn. In summary, thought went into this and the excitement was building. So the other day i emailed the VC & asked if there was any extra room if i wanted a friend to come along the same week as me. His answer? Not only was there no room for a friend, there is no longer room for me. (WTF, mate?) i may go in August instead, but might as well shelve this as yet another life goal that i don't get to do. Not to be emo, but i don't get it. i must have some pretty hardcore bad karma from a past life or something. You'd tell me if i was Jack the Ripper, wouldn't you? Seriously?
As for what's left of the things i care about (after losing my career, my boat-trips, my fortune (such as it was), and apparently some friends(?) for those of you who haven't been following the story thus far), i've been thinking about putting together an EC YA group. i miss Muuyacm a lot, i miss YASC (or whatever their current acronym) and their cons a lot, and so on. i have a uu co-worker, and so does my sister, and awhile ago some of the adults here were talking about starting one at uwec (i, of course, cannot remember specifically who). i've talked to Prairie Star's district coordinator (via the internets, duh) a bit, and besides probably signing myself up for a lot of planning work, have learned there's no upcoming cons. Which is sad, but changeable. The biggest problem with this idea is that as much as i'd like a ya group here, i don't want to be in charge of it--i am no good at being in charge. we know this from my time as muuyacm's co-chair. Give me one person to talk to, and i'll amuse them all day. Give me five? They will hate me. i will get stage fright. Then i will do something silly (hm, maybe should have rethought that professor-idea anyway?). Then they will go home and never come back. Okay, maybe i'm being harsh on myself; it's still a very, very exciting idea. Counting me, rge, my co-worker, rge's co-worker, two of our random friends (who 'sympathize uu' but have never attended) and at least one bridger that is still in town, that's seven people attending our meetings. Which would be freakin' good for a bum town like EC. i just have to talk to some more people in our congregation, and get a worship together, and decide on a time/place. Maybe this could happen? Shit, i'm getting excited again. i shouldn't do that, it leads to disaster.
