"What's the paper-crumpler-upper do?"--Jason, on i never quite clarified what--
Life with no car is sort...of... interesting. i always feel like i'm imposing on people when i call them for a ride, but on the flip side of it i have hung out with people i might not otherwise see (which is ironic?). My car's been broken this time for a week, and i'm quite certain Nik could fix it with a twist of his wrist; the problem being twisting his arm enough to fucking get him to my house to take a look at it. i am NOT paying another hundred dollars to have ONE FUCKING WIRE replaced. That is just not going to happen, so i'm waiting until i a) get sick of the bus/mother-wagon or b) Nik's schedule aligns with myne ever. Half of my debt-peoples have been calling me regularly, so besides the annoyance factor i can't reasonably spend any sort of money on my 'car.'
so, i finally get why people drink (i know, i know, i'm a geologist, this should have been clear to me many years ago). But really. When i drink, i wake up the next day earlier and quicker and feeling better than i normally do... not that that is, apparently, part of the normal gig for normal people, but the drunk part is apparently the same with my inverted metabolism and theirs. And it's not like i drink all that much, or anything (and i'm not even inappropriately comparing myself to Nik, Ian or Bryan here), but i'm finding when i do things are easier: the night shorter, the conversion pertinent(er), and my emphasis on syllables better. Maybe i just hate my accent?
In any case, i went out with Alex and David today, and it was awesome. It would have been awesome no matter what we did, because David's been in Japan for months and i don't see Alex nearly enough, but i for whatever reason suddenly really liked the bar. i was supposed to go out with Ratchel and Jason, but they, in Alex's word, pussied out, but sweetly dropped me off where i needed to be.
i really was going to write something awesome tonight, but i pretty much just want to go sleep. So:
--Ian's Team-Shut-The-Fuck-Up won tp AGAIN last week (grrrrrrrrrr)
--this week i had a party instead of bowling/tp (which was mostly awesome/slightly dramatic)
--Jenny S. (the should-be geologist!) took me out yesterday, and it was great... she also, conveniently, has a geologist friend, who is pretty much the best
--New Year's Sucked: But at Least i Got to Go Swimming. The youngest of the pseudo-step-siblings threw a fit and thus got sent to bed early, thus mooting the entire reason to be in the frickin' Dells. Me, being me, proceeded to comfort the father-man and the sister-girl on their respective relationships, and we played air-hockey and watched bears and the states on bad, bad, bad TV and such. And i talked to Elyse at midnight, which was pretty great (THE FUTURE!)
--there is a 120-day statue of limitations on suing for personal injury, which i think is pretty good life knowledge to have
--i totally sold a crazy christian lady (regular) at work a mail merge package, and i was terribly impressed with myself. i mean, man, i do do a killer mail merge, but i fucking hate that lady, and still managed to talk to her long enough to realize i could make serious money off her admirable love of all the heathens.
--i made (Hobbit) Dave a pretty stereotypical Kinko's xmas gift (i would tell you what it was, except the fact that you might get one too!), and he LOVED it. i LOVE that he LOVED it, and that has pretty much made my week
--i'm getting along really well with all of my co-workers right now. i've found the ear-filter for the annoying one, and the flamboyant one might become full time (==MORE FUN!), and we're as a store planning a PIRATE PARTY which i am just TOO excited about
