a month of mondays
Since i've been a poor poster for awhile, i'll let the past few Mondays stand in for my life in general.
Three Mondays ago i went hiking near Mt. Baker with Zach. It was absolutely indescribably amazing (see the obnoxiously happy photos of me on facebook for a glimmer of how excited about it i was). Just driving to the park area was amazing, as as soon as you get out of Bham the land gets crazy in every way, and is notably younger here than in the midwest. There's moss and ferns and green plant-unidentifiable-things everywhere, so incredibly beautiful and distracting when you're trying to drive a windy country road.
Once we finally got to the trail head, there was snow everywhere (high elevation), and we couldn't find our right trail, so we pretty much struck out cross country until we saw a trail (which ended really well, as it was a great trail). The mountains were amazing, we saw some marmosets (or something?) in their natural habitat, lots of rocks, and the world's smallest mountain stream (a continuous drip from a snowbank). Mountains like that go on forever, and i'm pretty sure i can't describe their full amazingness without simply referring you to Edward Abbey and Barry Lopez's hypothetical love child, because that'd be the only person who could do it justice.
At Picture Lake, that really famous lake you've seen pictures of but never knew the decidedly simple name of, we eavesdropped on tourists in at least three languages, though there was basically no one there.
Pretty much one of the best days of my life.
Two Mondays ago i went to a temp agency, waited several hours, and got told that since i don't have a car i can't have a job. Then i went to Biolife, waited several hours, and got told that since they fucked up i couldn't donate plasma. Then i went home, and the internet told me i didn't get a job i particularly want at the moment*, and then not even facebook worked. Then i asked my friends to hang out with me, and they decided TV was more fun than me (which was probably true, but pretty sure they knew at least half of the things that had happened to me that Monday, and should have filled their job title of 'friends').
Pretty much one of the worst days of the recent past, and led to a fucking awful nightmare of Bham turning into another EC.
*which i have since then heard the contrary from, and will be interviewing for after all, in DC for the Department of Energy! More on this, of course, if/when it happens!
Last Monday i started a new job at a small large-scale printing company here in Bham (got that? small company=few employees, large scale=runs of thousands). i, uh, basically make junk mail, but in a lot of ways it's like Kinko's except no customers or coworkers who make it a point to let me know what a stupid shit i am every time they talk to me. So, awesome! (i've even already ingratiated myself with management by fixing the 4110.) And thus bearable until i find a real person job.
Pretty much a normal day i guess?
Today, Monday, i worked again, and borrowed Brenda's car since she can't work right now anyway. This whole thing is such a long story i'm not even sure where to start, but in any case we're getting evicted at the end of the month, and i took her to the hospital yesterday, which didn't help much but most of her pain went away at some point today anyway. She posted on craigslist an ad for our place, and has already had dozens of calls and several tours of the place, even though neither of us has a place to go yet. Oye. So anyway, today, we had a bunch of people looking at our apartment, and now she & Heidi are shopping... yeah.
Pretty much... i don't even know. The last few days have bled together so bad, what with the not-sleeping and the spontaneous emergencies and the fuzzy, fuzzy math involved in not bouncing any checks, and i'm so excited about the DOE job and so scared of not getting it, not to mention not knowing where i'll be living in September and having no one in this zip code i could crash with. So pretty much, hella awesome, hella awful, and there's just too much unresolved to really know. But i feel good, i feel like i can make all this work. 'All this' being everything, by myself, except for my Rachels on the phone.
In case i don't post, next Monday i'll either be homeless or on my way to D.C. for the interview of my life.
